Before the first meal

What does Avo require?

Avo requires iOS 26.0 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 26.0 or later on iPad. The Apple Watch companion requires watchOS 26.0 or later and Avo on a paired iPhone. Some features also need iCloud, Apple Health, camera, Bluetooth, or notification permission. Avo asks only when a related feature needs access.

How are my nutrition targets calculated?

During onboarding, Avo uses the profile, measurements, activity level, and goal you provide to calculate a starting daily energy target. You can import available profile information from Apple Health and review the result before continuing.

Targets and summaries are informational and are not medical advice. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making medical or dietary decisions.

Free tracking and optional upgrades

Can I use Avo without a subscription?

Yes. Core nutrition tracking remains free. Avo Plus adds Circle sharing and recipe shopping-list export to Apple Reminders. Avo AI Plus includes Avo Plus and adds meal analysis, food lookup, nutrition-label scanning, recipe import, cooking-factor estimates, and meal highlights.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open the plan screen in Avo and choose Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account used for the original purchase. Restoration does not create a new charge.

Where can I manage or cancel a subscription?

Use Apple’s subscription controls in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or manage subscriptions from your App Store account. Deleting Avo or an Avo AI account does not cancel an active Apple subscription.

Keep shared meals together

How do Circles work?

Circles keep meals, products, recipes, meal types, and members together. Every installation starts with a private Circle. You can create additional Circles and switch the active Circle from Avo → Settings → Circle Manager.

How do I share a Circle?

Open the Circle’s members screen and invite people through Apple iCloud sharing. Shared Circles require iCloud and Avo Plus. Each invited person needs to accept the Apple share before shared content can synchronize.

Why is shared meal logging locked?

You can continue viewing a shared Circle, but adding or editing shared meals requires Avo Plus. Private Circle tracking remains available without the sharing plan.

Optional health context

What does Avo read from Apple Health?

With your permission, Avo can read step count, active and resting energy, workouts, biological sex, date of birth, height, and body mass. It uses available information on your device for nutrition targets and summaries.

What does Avo write to Apple Health?

Avo can write dietary protein, carbohydrate, and fat samples when you allow it. You can review or revoke permissions at any time in the Health app.

Watch & widgets

What can I see on Apple Watch?

View today’s calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, nutrition goals, and meals synced from your paired iPhone. Open a meal to see its nutrition and foods, or add Avo complications to a compatible watch face. Log and edit meals on your iPhone; the Watch companion is for viewing your day.

Why is my Watch waiting for data?

Open Avo on your paired iPhone and finish setting up your nutrition goals. Then open Avo on your Watch and tap Refresh. The Watch shows when its data was last updated. If your iPhone is unavailable, updates can be delayed; open Avo on the iPhone again when it is reachable. Complications and widgets may refresh later than the app.

How do I use Home Screen widgets?

Open Avo and set up your nutrition goals, then choose Avo from the Home Screen widget gallery. Use Nutrition Rings for an overview or an individual calorie, protein, carbohydrate, or fat widget. Tap a widget to open Today in Avo. If it asks you to refresh, open Avo to update the displayed information.

Do Watch and widgets need a subscription?

No. The Apple Watch companion, complications, and Home Screen nutrition widgets are included in Free. They do not require Avo Plus or Avo AI Plus.

Faster input, with review

What can Avo AI help with?

Avo AI Plus can analyze meal photos, files, and descriptions; look up foods; scan nutrition labels; import recipes; estimate cooking factors; and produce meal highlights. Availability can vary by request and service status.

Are Avo AI results exact?

No. Food matches, portions, nutrition values, recipe details, and cooking estimates can be incomplete or incorrect. Review every result before saving it and do not use Avo AI as medical advice.

Why does Avo need camera access?

Avo uses the camera when you choose to scan barcodes, capture nutrition labels, or add meal photos for analysis. Continuous barcode scanning can use front and rear camera views while the meal is open.

What is sent when I use an AI feature?

The text, nutrition details, barcode information, or selected meal and label photos needed for your request are sent through Avo’s backend to OpenAI. See the Privacy Policy for the complete description.

Backups, deletion, and control

What does an Avo backup contain?

Backups include meals, recipes, products, profiles, and photos. Restoring a backup replaces the current Avo data on that installation, so review the selected backup before confirming.

What happens when I delete my Avo AI account?

Deleting the account removes the backend account, AI usage records, and purchase linkage. It does not delete meals, products, recipes, or Circles stored locally or in iCloud. It also does not cancel Apple billing or automatically revoke Sign in with Apple.

How do I remove local or iCloud nutrition data?

Delete records in Avo, remove Avo’s iCloud data through Apple’s controls, or remove the app’s local data from the device. Shared Circle data can remain visible to other members according to their access and Apple’s iCloud sharing behavior.
